Gregory Lyle is a founding attorney of Independence Law Firm and has been helping Utah families with estate planning, probate, and related legal matters for more than a decade. He is passionate about helping people create thoughtful, customized plans that protect their loved ones, avoid unnecessary court involvement, and bring peace of mind during life's most important transitions.
Greg understands that every family is different. That is why he does not believe in one-size-fits-all planning. Whether a client needs a trust, will, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, probate guidance, or help thinking through a difficult family situation, Greg takes time to listen, explain options clearly, and help each family make confident decisions.
His commitment to estate planning became even more personal after losing his mother to cancer in 2019. That experience deepened his desire to help families prepare ahead of time, reduce confusion, and ease the burden on loved ones during already difficult moments.
Greg graduated from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2010. During law school, he externed for the Honorable Judge Denise Lindberg at the Third District Court in Salt Lake City and interned with Utah Legal Services in the real estate division. He is licensed to practice law in Utah and is a member of the Utah State Bar Estate Planning Section. He has also served on the Elder Law Section board.
Before founding Independence Law Firm, Greg worked as an associate attorney at law firms in Salt Lake, Summit, and Utah Counties. Over the years, he has spoken at conferences, trainings, workshops, podcasts, and community presentations on estate planning, probate, business formation, and related legal topics. He has presented to organizations including Intermountain Healthcare, ARUP, Adobe, and other Utah companies and community groups.
Greg also speaks Spanish and enjoys helping Spanish-speaking families feel informed, respected, and comfortable throughout the planning process.
Greg was born in Portland, Oregon, and was raised in Walnut Creek, California, and Park City, Utah. He graduated cum laude from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in communications. Outside of work, Greg loves spending time with his wife, Courtney, and their four children. He also enjoys sports, entrepreneurship, and serving in his church and community.
At the heart of Greg's work is a simple belief: estate planning is not just about documents. It is about love, protection, and making life easier for the people you care about most.
